Who We Are
Messeh Leone Trust (MLT) is a non-profit organisation that seeks to give young people, women and local communities the power to build a healthy, peaceful and better world and bring the world closer together to take collective action for positive change. MLT provides the space for people to be connected with their communities and to link up with a larger network of community action, to help tackle the root causes of conflict, and to engage on projects that matter to them.
Origins
Messeh Leone Trust is the result of almost two decades of extensive research and active local and global field work in building peace, fighting extreme poverty, supporting health and education, and promoting human rights and accountability led by our co-founder Messeh Leone and the team. Messeh was a child during the brutal war in Sierra Leone. Growing up in in the midst of conflict, Messeh witnessed unimaginable abuse of children and gross violations of human rights. The civil war in Sierra Leone had a terrible impact on him. The horrors he witnessed filled him with despair. But despite the shock of the war, Messeh never lost hope. As he grew up, he started on a journey of recovery. At age 14, Messeh entered in to the world of activism. He later moved to the United Kingdom where he studied law, and devoted his time working for or contributing to a number of international organisations including the Commonwealth, the United Nations and the European Union. Messeh Leone is determined to make the world a better place and to protect other people from atrocities he experienced as a child.
