Building Peace: Protecting Children in Conflict
Messeh Leone experienced war at a very young age in his country, Sierra Leone. “But I’ve been among the lucky ones,” said the young man who now lives in the United Kingdom and advocates for children affected by war. “Society generally doesn’t really want to listen to children, their voices are easily discarded. That’s why education is important. Children need to be guided and protected to be able to bring their voice to the table,” he said, emphasizing the global responsibility to protect children from war.

Queen Elizabeth II and Commonwealth Recognise Messeh Leone's work
In recognition for contributions to education and development in the Commonwealth, Messeh Leone received an invitation to meet Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, alongside some outstanding leaders including Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai.
Messeh Leone, was also the recipient of the Commonwealth's International Award for Dynamic Leadership and Service to Young People. He received his award at a special award ceremony in Malta in November 2015 as part of the Commonwealth Youth Forum which took place on the fringes of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
